Royal Wedding

Today was the royal wedding, a splendid over the top rich pageant of an affair. But then everyone likes a great love story too.
The bunting and union jacks were out in force and many areas had street parties to celebrate.

With it being a national holiday I almost forgot it was friday and time to post a fence shot too.

Also this week I have been reworking some origami crane shots. I created a set for cranes and then only put 3 images in it, so thought I should make a greater effort with it. I think it also serves to remind us and me that in all the spectacle of today many people are in no position to celebrate and that there lives couldnt be any further from today if they tried.

P.S. The font I am using for headings is really odd...It honestly does say Royal Wedding and not Loyal Wedding!! NB: Changed Font!

Flowers

As you will have noticed my Flickr stream is full of flowers right now...especially tulips. So many spring blooms out right now that its hard not to see the beautiful colours all around.
I really wish I knew the names of the flowers I shoot but sadly I don't.

At the moment I am waiting for a delivery from RedBubble so stay tuned to see my work printed and available to buy.

Glasgow

I went away for a few days to Glasgow...the home of many architecturally wonderful buildings. I visited the Kelvingrove art gallery and museum when I was there which is the home to Christ of Saint John of the Cross by Salvador Dalí. It is a hugely impressive painting of oil on canvas and stands 205 cm × 116 cm (80.7 in × 45.67 in). I first saw the painting when I was in my teens and at art college and the impression it had on me has stayed with me ever since. Painted in only 1951 it has more of a renaissance feel due to the subject matter and the rich dark oils. It is an imposing piece.
Over in my Flickr stream I have given the picture a "Linda" feel and textured it and given it a different look...nowhere near as good or impressive as the original however.

The Kelvingrove art gallery houses many wonderful works..painting and statues and over the coming weeks you will see a few chosen ones on my Flickr stream and over here on my Blog.

Holidays

Well I have been away for a few days and the weather was wonderful. I took so many shots while I was away...well over 1000...its going to take a month of sundays to process them ! If you are following me on Flickr then sorry for the delay in catching up with your streams...so many great shots you have posted while I was away.

I have still quite a few shots from this month to post of some beautiful flowers I received for mothers day...sigh.

Also a few more textured works that I have been working on.

Nature

It has been an enjoyable few weeks for my photography. The sun has shone, I have been in print and came 3rd in a competition. I really feel like I have got in my stride now :)
This week I have posted quite a few images of nature in black and white again. Spring is all about nature in all its beauty and colour as well as b&w :)

Tomorrow sees me heading out on a few days away. So no posting for a few days, but lots more when I rerturn. I still have lots of lovely flower shots to post, many of them tulips as they are my all time favourite flower.

I will be shooting some architecture when I am away so stay tuned for something different too. Take care.

3rd place

A few weeks ago I entered into a Flickr competition hosted by Sony, the brief was to take a photo which captured the essence of Spring. Today I saw that I had come 3rd.

The top 3 winners were selected by the Sony appointed Alpha Ambassador, Celia Henderson, who specialises in macro flower photography.

Although I didn't win the top spot and the prize I really couldn't be happier. So many excellent shots were submitted that I am over the moon to be placed in 3rd. :))

Walks in the forest

As you can probably see I have been out and about shooting nature as the spring really takes hold here. I uploaded a colour version of ivy on the forest floor onto Flickr but I also thought it looked rather good in black and white too.

I have processed quite a few nature shots recently into b&w as I often feel the colour dazzles me and the shape and delicate forms are lost in the blaze of colour. That's not to say I don't like colour, because I do, and especially after a long grey winter! Just sometimes I like a change :) or even a combination of both....

I haven't done much uploading onto this Blog of late but I hope to add a lot more pictures and general thoughts etc over the easter weekend when I will be off work and have the time. There are a few areas I don't think are working too well and could be improved on....but as I said from the beginning I think this will always be a work in progress and as I learn and adapt to this challenge.

I have also added a new Set on Flickr called Tulips. They are my all time fave flower and I have quite a lot of shots of them so thought it best to pull them all together HERE

Published Work

This week I had a picture of mine published in a small magazine.
The article was all about a local park and its features and memories for the writer. My shot showed the Stone in the middle of the rose garden.
"The kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth,
You are nearer God's heart in a garden,
Than anywhere else on earth."

I am very pleased to have something in print, it is a joy to find that something I do for my own pleasure is appreciated by someone else.
A confidence boost this week :)

Busy Busy Busy

Well this week has been a busy week, both at work and home. Mothers day in the UK was this Sunday and my children bought me some beautiful flowers which I must say I have photographed constantly since then :) So you will see lots of flower shots appearing on Flickr in the next few days as well as some lovely dafodil shots I took on a walk through the woods. Spring has brought so much colour into my photography that it has made such a welcome change. Up till then I have been doing some indoor photography in and around the house and on the window ledge where the light was slightly better.

It has been hard this week to post to the Blog. But I am ever hopeful of having more time to post images and thoughts as and when.
