Thank you for your visit

I must say a big thankyou to everyone who popped over here yesterday and today after I made an advert for my blog on Flickr. Having a blog is much harder than I imagined and quite often wonder if I have anything interesting or enough to say!...{Dont answer that :))}

For those of you who wondered how I do my abstract images, well I use a program called Apophysis...it is fractal generating software...then I add texture, colour and generally evolve it in to something I am happy with.

Today I am back with some texture work on Flickr. I seem to have a whole host of flower shots that I havent posted yet too.

It is a bank holiday in the UK and as usual it's been raining, but hopefully if it brightens up I will go out with my camera.

Abstract Art

This weekend I have been messing around with abstracts with my daughter...it can be wonderfully creative and totally unexpected too. Its totally unique and really is all about the moment!

Blackpool Street Art

Over this weekend Blackpool hosted a street art event with 40 top urban artists from all over the world showcasing there talents on the buildings around Blackpool. I have a number of shots of the artwork on Flickr but apologies for not knowing the individual artists work.

I arrived on Sunday and not all the work was finished due to the weather I suspect, so I hope to go back this weekend and take some more shots of the completed works. It really was an impressive event and all credit to the artists who took part and who braced themselves against the wind and rain in typical Blackpool weekend weather.

Show Me The Monet

This week on the television in the UK there has been a show called "Show Me The Monet". The premise is that aspiring artirsts submit there work and if accepted it will be hung in the Royal College of Art at an exhibition. I only managed to watch a few of the series and found it to be most inspiring. BBC Link

The criteria for the judging was:
(i) Originality of the Work;
(ii) Technical Skill of the Artist; and
(iii) Emotional Response Evoked by the Work

I have to say that the show has made me evaluate my own work...do I show enough in any of these catagories.
I have mentioned previously on here about feeling I have a lack of coherant style through my work as I would very much like people to be able to spot an image of mine and know immediatly whose it is.

As I said the programme threw up quite a few things for me to think about. Photography and art in general is more than a destination it's a journey and I will continue to travel along its rich and varied path.

Hospital

This week I have spent a little while in hospital so haven't been on the computer or Flickr much. But while I was away 2 shots of mine made it into Explore...which is always much appreciated. I am quite behind in commenting and posting pictures so apologies to everyone. I have been given another bunch of tulips this week but really have not had the strength to photograph them...or anything really. The mind is willing but the body less so!
Here are a few pictures I took on a recent walk to the park. I have a few more nature ones to post but then I have some landscapes I have been working on. I find if I stick to the same things to photograph I get a bit bored...feel I need to stretch myself a little from time to time. At some point this year I am hoping to try and learn a lot more about long exposures. I have been very impressed with the results that contacts post on Flickr and would like to see if I can do some also.

Camera Shy

I really enjoy taking pictures of animals but have to admit that it isn't easy...flowers stay still and let you take there photo where as animals seem to do whatever they can to do whatever they want! I have lots of shots of the backs of animals...birds flying away...heads buried under wings, water, grass. You can guarantee that as soon as the shutter is pressed its all gone to pot! Here is another edit of the swan I put on to Flickr...trying to hide its head from me and the camera...typical!

Fire

For those of you who may have read on Flickr we had a fire during the week. The entire back fence and shed all burnt to the ground. It is amazing and frightening to see how much stuff you have that can so easily be reduced to nothing in a matter of moments. Thankfully we were not hurt and many thanks go to the neighbours who alerted both us and the fire brigade.
It has been hearbreaking but I am so glad it wasn't any worse.
